On Sunday evening I had the pleasure of attending a great concert in the bar/gallery Studio Acht (8). It was the first time I was at this bar and it won´t be the last. The concert by Derek Shirley was one of a series of concerts organised by the record label Sacred Realism. The Kugelbahn Bar is as they say on their website “at the dark end of the street”. As a matter of fact, you don´t find the Kugelbahn in trendy Malplaquetstr or near the Ufer Studios but adjoining Bornholmerstr at the end point of the harsh Soldiner Kiez. But every Kiez needs a StammKneipe and this one is very handy for us and it´s a really nice one.
What can I say….just a bunch of groovy music. My first “mixtape” created since arriving to our new Kiez. Let’s see if Stan Tropic can find a place to spin in this locale 🙂
Having already discovered Bibliothek am Luisenbad when on a stroll along the Panke River near Badstraße I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they also have concerts. Reading the schedule for experimental music concerts on Echtzeitmusik I stumbled across the information for a concert that is part of a series called Klangenwelten ad hoc 2013. Presented by Thomas Gerwin the evening was split into 2 parts. The first half was a loudspeaker concert. A number of pieces of contemporary music, ranging from electroacoustic to musique concrète where presented in surround sound, with the sound diffused live by Gerwin. 8 pieces where played and some details about the pieces were given prior to listening, which helped with the interpretation of the works.
