It took me a couple of days to notice this cute little river that flows very close to my house. It was a very happy surprise to find it, I always enjoy living close to the water and I thought it would make me miss less the sunny shores of the Maybachufer.
The Panke is not a tributary of the Spree but a river itself that ends in Berlins main river. Google´ling a bit out of curiosity I found some interesting facts about it. The Panke flows for a long section underground and joins the Spree from two flanks; in Spandau and right next to Friedrichstrasse. During the 19th Century people call it the “Stinkepanke” because it was heavily polluted by the dirty residues of local industries. Continue reading
